Pros

Type of work. Community based service.

Cons

Challenges and pits personal values against secular progressivism with oppressed oppressor mentality. This organisation is not a Christian based value system.

Pros

Outstanding supervision, passionate and compassionate coworkers, truly supportive staff who are always there for each other. The Y Social Impact Center had lots of secure grants contracts and funding as such a large nonprofit so our work was secure for several years. Growth opportunities with a masters program for staff. Also saw colleagues be promoted with experience and degrees. I can’t speak highly enough of my supervisors. I learned so much and never felt gaslit or micromanaged. YMMV of course. Also tons of PTO compared to other CMH agencies. May be the best til private practice.

Cons

Very low pay even considering the level of the role and a major disconnect between direct service staff and upper management. The usual community mental health complaints. However, I felt like there were a decent amount of fully licensed staff who had been there pre grad school and worked their way up.

Pros

Free membership, friendly colleagues, and some members are sweet to talk to. Also, the Y has a strong commitment to DEI and accessibility—it feels good to help families access our programs.

Cons

Lots of change in a short amount of time (internal systems, including time sheets and membership software/processes). The leads and supervisors are not the most professional or experienced at their job.
