Pros
Meeting and caring for these youth and seeing their growth from intake to discharge is the most rewarding experience. They teach you patience and perspective and empathy without even trying. They make the hardest days bearable.
Cons
Management and administration spend little to no time with youth, so they do not understand the role and responsibilities of Youth Care Specialists. This causes them to be unnecessarily hard on YCS leading to work anxiety and burnout. Management are not appreciative of the exhausting lengths YCS go to each day to meet the needs of the youth they have worked hard to build relationships with. Team Leads constantly undermine already worn down staff and are not open to feedback.
