Pros
For the rest of my career, I will have an excellent baseline regarding how not to lead. The analysts/associates tend to be young, friendly, and open-minded.
Cons
The Hedge Fund Services department is led by a very poor management team where impropriety and unprofessional behavior flow from the top down. In the same vein, the group's managers are inept at leading. The criteria on which I base this criticism are typical qualities of good leaders such as the ability to set the course for daily workflow, create a professional environment conducive productivity, support team morale, and be supportive and nurturing of subordinates among others. Not only does the HFS group's leadership not exemplify any of these characteristics, it actually does the exact opposite. The priorities are changed daily which results in several partially completed projects. The culture is one focused on blame and passing the buck rather than problem-solving and productivity. The managers are ultra negative and drive morale and productivity down by being impatient and unapproachable. And, the managers care nothing for the success and progression of their underlings, offering no recognition for good work while pinning all of the blame for poor team performance.
