Lots of change since COVID but imagine that’s the same for every retail business.

Advance readers copies of books. Free damaged books. Trauma bonding with other employees

Extremely unprofessional owners who do not support or respect their employees. A weird and toxic environment where the booksellers are regarded poorly and the managers are too young/inexperienced to be effective. Owners keep promising health insurance to full-time employees—this is a promise they have made for the past 10 years. Owners also talk openly about their marriage problems and which employees they plan on firing. Employees have been made to clean up raw sewage with no PPE. The work environment is actively hostile and unrewarding.
