Pros

Fun activities, friendly co-workers, fair hours, working with animals, working with kids of different age groups, educational, CPR/AED training provided.

Cons

Can't think of much unless you don't work well with children or have little experience. Sometimes you need to lead tours or lead activities and there is little training for that except watching others who've done it before.

Pros

Incredible people, opportunities for networking and growth, making a huge difference, good stepping stone for other rescue/welfare work, expansive training, active work. I still believe in the mission with my whole being, the work is imperative.

Cons

Anti-union, compassion fatigue galore, tension between departments(power struggles), secrecy and miscommunication related to medical events and euthanasia, time there doesn't matter much when they decide you're done, upper management is completely out of touch with what actually happens on the first floor. Pay is abysmal for the work you do there, got one 48 cent raise in my 2 years there for "cost of living" while the board approved a total rebrand and took at least 3 years to make the outdoor play space construction even start.
