Pros

Access to anything you or your customer needs at below retail. Writing off all business expenses without the caps of a W2 employee. Total control of your own time. Ability to do this and consult on the side or even hold a part time job. Unlimited vacations. Choose who you want to work with and who you don't. Its easier after you've done it a while. A lot of proposal and quote reuse saves time. The referrals and repeat business come as you expand your knowledge and relationships.

Cons

It takes a while to learn the industries and build your business, have some savings. You have to be willing to unlearn and ignore a lot of conventional wisdom to stay ahead. This isn't a job, its owning your own business, like a franchise and they should tell you that up front. Self motivation is the biggest challenge if you haven't worked out of your home before.

Pros

Not many, great rah rah Monday morning webinairs.

Cons

Obviously most of the recent posts are by the management personnel of this company. They lure unsuspecting job hunters in with their big talk and promises, it’s just that, talk. They have some decent discounts available in their core business, fitness equipment, but most of the other products they show in their training program they have never sold. They mention the hundreds of companies they represent but in fact most of those companies don’t know or care who they are, often dealing with dealers themselves. No advertising, no marketing support, nothing other than their big talk to help you get started. Then you find out that you do all the work, spend all your gas money and effort and they take the lion’s share of the profit on each sale. Each year they start several new “classes” for new Commercial Account Managers, made up of as many people they can lure in. Only to have virtually all of them fall by the way side within the first year when they see that they are getting beaten on almost all their proposals and the pricing Wilkins gets can be gotten via the internet without involving Wilkins. A few people make it but not many and it is not due to not working hard, better have another job to help pay the bills because it could be a long time coming working with Wilkins.
