Pros
Customers are great! Co-workers are the bomb. My manager has been a VRS interpreter before so she gets it and has experience so she is able to use judgement, so she is one of about half of the managers who are great. Pay is not bad.
Cons
After the Z was bought by private equity everything changed, it then bought Purple VRS for their platform and apparently their less interpreter friendly policies which ZVRS has been adopting. Since then every penny has gone to upper management and to pay the PE gods. We don't get annual reviews and raises. New people are hired and are paid more than current employees with more experience, qualifications or certs because the company does not keep us all on the same pay scale. VIs have learned that in order to get a raise, they leave Z for 6 months, then come back and they will get the current rate. If we ask for a pay review, they just deny it saying nothing has changed for us, even though they are paying people with the same or lesser qualifications more to join the company. They cut corners everywhere to save money. Our platform (for the VIs) has not had a significant upgrade since COVID We can only contact HR, Payroll, etc through email and it takes days, sometimes weeks to get a response. Our IT staff are overwhelmed. We get no communication from HQ like All Hands meetings, monthly memos or updates about what the company is doing, working on, its goals, challenges, etc. Communication between employees is actively discouraged. We have no companywide communication platform.
