Offer Rescinded Days Before Start Date After Full Hiring Process With No Meaningful Communication
Pros
The interview team initially presented the organization as structured and growth-oriented, and the role itself appeared to offer strong leadership opportunity within the traffic safety industry. The hiring process moved forward with multiple interviews, an on-site meeting, and clear next steps, which created confidence in the opportunity at the time.
Cons
After completing approximately two months of interviews, background screening, drug testing, onboarding documentation, and formally accepting the offer, the company rescinded the position just days before my scheduled start date. The stated reason was that my driver’s license was issued in another state, despite prior written communication from onboarding indicating I would have 30 days after my start date to complete the transfer. Once notified, I obtained a same-day appointment and paid out of pocket to resolve the issue immediately, yet the decision was still upheld without discussion. Communication throughout the process was inconsistent, and when the offer was withdrawn, outreach was minimal. I had to initiate nearly all follow-up attempts, including calls to recruiting, onboarding, and multiple HR lines, with limited response. Most concerning was the lack of willingness from leadership to hear my perspective or review the conflicting guidance I had received. Given the significant reliance candidates place on accepted offers, including turning down other roles and making family and financial arrangements, this approach demonstrated a troubling absence of professional courtesy and hiring accountability.
