What is the hiring process like at Canva?

      Canva reviews

It really does feel like a cult. IYKYK. Low pay and bad management.

      Pros

      - Great offices. The chefs are awesome - Having the Canva brand on your resume - Amazing colleagues

      Cons

      - Don't buy into the hype Canva generates for itself. They work hard to maintain a positive perception before they IPO but it's not reality. - Senior management is terrible, time poor and generally look out for themselves and their inner circle. - The company is constantly pivoting. All staff are pushed to the edge and most are close to burn out - The hiring process is absolutely ridiculous. Interesting experience but it will take up a lot of your time to prepare for and then go through the actual interview stages. - They underpay. If you're new to the workforce, know that you will get better pay elsewhere. - The experience you bring to the role is irrelevant. The founders and execs will provide a directive and strategy where additional input from the team is not considered - don't bother speaking up, you will be ignored.

Gone downhill so fast it’s hard to know where to start

      Pros

Remote friendly, decent pay, fairly qualified peers, good collaboration at the lowest level.

      Cons

Ever since the company started to hire managers externally the culture has gone seriously downhill and there’s not many promo opportunities. The top leadership were mostly at the right place at the right time, i.e. joined the company back when management was trained through internal promotion and everyone was working closely with the founders. Now it’s all backstabbing games on the mid-to-high level management, and the positions are very windy. All this is made worse by the fact that the company does random hiring freezes and team bonding budget freezes without proper explanation why. There’s talk in public and also internally about IPO, maybe it’s related but this has been going on for too long.

      Pros

They have Carer's Leave where you can use aside from your vacation leave for you to take care of your family and pets. Yes, they treat pets as part of your family

      Cons

Too many changes happening at once that sometimes I no longer know which I should prioritize. As much as I want to automate the process, what's stopping me are the never ending changes in a short span of time e.g. Annual changes on the system and process.
