Pros
There are a multitude of benefits to working at Firefly, but the two most obvious and prolific are...
Startup Environment....
If you have ever worked at a startup there is one element that you still will get at Firefly is the dynamic evolution of the company in all aspects of its existence. You get to help and craft the very foundation and culture of a company and see how that builds on itself.
New Space Industry.....
It's a pretty common opinion that rockets are objectively, cool and to a degree mystifying. Very few people can say they have worked on a rocket or a lunar lander. You can do either at Firefly.
Bottom Line : Firefly has some exceptionally smart, passionate and caring people that feed off each others energy to solve fun and interesting problems that very few people have the chance to do. Working in the space field is extremely interesting because it warps traditional mechanics of thought.
Cons
The Pros are just one side of a double edged sword. There are inherent issues stemming from a startup new space company that Firefly is still trying to grow through.
Startup Environment....
Part of a startup involves an opportunity to craft many things but it also can breed systemic issues that can fester or what can feel like a lot like a Sisyphus exercise that will cause you to bang your head against the wall.
New Space Industry....
Space is hard. Many have acknowledged that and it's not only because there are ton of complex intertwining problems that you need to solve to make it work, it's that typically, if one or two of those problems are not addressed it will ruin your mission. New Space startup industry is not like Software Startups where the product can be released with a bevy of issues to resolve and still be able to start generating revenue. In the space industry success is binary, you either did or you didn't meet your mission and a lot culminates to just a few minutes or sometimes seconds, even milliseconds. Additionally, similar to other industries, getting to market as soon as possible can drive panic inducing stress on decision making and can sometimes lead to emotions running high among coworkers as the pressure starts to impose itself on your day to day work life.
Bottom Line : Firefly suffers from a product of circumstance of being in a tough part of its life as a company and its industry. There is plenty of disorganization and chaos to drive off even the most patient of people. The goal hopefully is that the company can similarly reach an escape velocity to avoid running out of enthusiasm (and money) before crash and burning like Firefly Space Systems.
