What is Five Guys policy around taking breaks?

      Business Outlook

      Pros

At Five Guys, every team member is cross-trained in all positions, so you gain a lot of experience in a fast-paced environment. Food safety and freshness are taken very seriously, and if you can work hard while following regulations, you’ll do well. It’s a good place to start if you’re looking to get into the fast food industry. You will also end up making some good friends.

      Cons

Management can be inconsistent—some managers can come across as overly strict or even bullying. Although the company promotes a “we’re like family” culture, it ultimately operates with a business-first mindset. While Five Guys remains profitable, employees often face reduced hours due to over-hiring. The hourly pay is fair, but fewer shifts mean less overall income. Advancement opportunities can feel dependent on staying in the good graces of certain managers rather than purely on performance. During slower periods, taking small breaks or working at a more relaxed pace is not always respected—staff are usually expected to keep busy with cleaning or food prep instead.
