How are career development opportunities at Froedtert & MCW?

12 hr shifts (if that’s your thing), usually good RNs to work with, autonomous especially with medications, no force backs, plenty of OT, always learning compared to being on an ambulance, wear any scrubs you want, decent pay, PTO adds up quickly

Not much room for advancement, some doctors look down on their staff, PTO isn’t approved for about two months, urgent care patients coming into the ED when they really shouldn’t unless they want an ED bill, if something urgent comes up in your personal life you’re responsible to find coverage, benefits are expensive, difficult to find trades

Benefits, variety of patient population/diagnoses, ability to change FTE status with life changes

Weekend/holiday work requirements, little room for career advancement

A lot of community initiatives, career advancement opportunities. Employees are nice for the most part

Low pay, overworked, and micromanagers

The job is overall enjoyable, you will learn a lot and everyday has its own unique challenges to not be monotonous. The benefits are awesome, the PTO is pretty alright but it’s an accrual and takes time to build.

The flexibility is not very good. Despite the department hours being from 7-5:30, you can only flex 2 hours a week and that is locked into your contracted time (for example, if my scheduled hours are 8-4:30 I could not work 7-1:30 and make up an hour during the week, I would be required to use an hour of PTO.) The support isn’t great, questions are often left unanswered for long periods of time, and changes are frequent and often sent via email. There’s a great lack of comradarie which is too bad, it’s nice to have that relationship of who to go to and feel like a team. The training is definitely a weak point that makes it challenging to find your footing. There was also no clear career path in where you can go from that role. Also, if you are there less than a year you will lose any PTO not taken and are not paid out.

Froedtert does seem to care about its employees, even though they don't always get it right. A lot of opportunities due to large size of health system.

Sometimes hard to make connections with other employees, due to the large size of the system.

There are several Cons - to name a few from parking to stunt career growth all due to politics not policies.

Worked there for 10 years. I felt very supported for growth opportunities

Did not pay well compared to other local hospitals. Health insurance really sucked- it was expensive yet didn’t cover much. I left the hospital to work in a different field and have much better/cheaper coverage

Flexible schedule, enjoy what I do.

Benefits, cover less and less and pay more and more. Claim room for advancement but don’t really back it up.
