What is the hiring process like at JPMorganChase?

      JPMorganChase reviews

Ok place to work if you’re a self-promoter

      Vice president
      Current employee
      Chicago, IL
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good Health care benefits and cost

      Cons

Easy to get ‘stuck’ in a role where your skills become expected and not exceptional and you’ll get passed over for promotions by those from outside of the bank or by friends and former colleagues of the hiring manager

Missing Code Documentation (CIB Analyst Role) Structuring Team

      Former employee

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Occasional free coffee (but you'll need it to survive the long hours). Chance to become a master at Excel VBA fixes (because who doesn't dream of that?). Learn the art of navigating bureaucratic mazes (a skill you never knew you needed). Get firsthand experience of what it feels like to be a cog in a broken machine (exciting, right?). Opportunity to impress friends with your JP Morgan Tag.

      Cons

      - Role primarily involves manual fixing of index breaks in Excel due to corporate actions, with minimal automation. - Lack of documentation for fixing index breaks and backdate corrections, leading to reliance on seniors for knowledge transfer. - Limited exposure to fundamental work due to Mumbai being a back-office team, with insufficient knowledge transfer provided. - Misleading interview process with unclear job expectations, often hiring for ad-hoc tasks consuming significant time. - Minimal teamwork, with individuals focused on personal tasks and little support for new hires. - Limited opportunity for innovation or skill development, as most new ideas are implemented by the London team. - High workload with little time for personal life, despite decent pay. - Requirement of prior knowledge of Python, which is not communicated clearly in the hiring process. - Lack of reimbursement for business trips to London within the first six months, discouraging exploration of opportunities. - Overall bureaucratic mindset, inefficient processes, and lack of support for learning and growth.

Not much. Ig nice looking office.

      Cons

Everything ultimately depends on HR and upper management. I broke my foot and needed surgery, which made it impossible for me to go into the office. I informed my manager and requested to work from home during my recovery, but the process was unnecessarily complicated because I needed approval from HR. While waiting for their decision, I received an attendance warning and was written up, despite my situation. I was even told that if I didn’t come in, I would be fired. When I brought this up to my manager, he said he had no say in the matter. But how does that make sense? As my direct supervisor, shouldn’t he have some authority in these decisions? It became clear that he had no real influence—just another worker following orders.

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Salary, opportunity to learn commercial banking at operational level.

      Cons

Management in Southest has no interest in seeing associates succeed unless they are a favorite. Some internal partners treat associates with little respect. Job is difficult and requires attention and problem solving skills that some hires cannot handle. They are given easy books to 'coast through' so the hiring failure is not exposed.

Great place to grow—success depends heavily on your manager

      Pros

World-class organization with solid systems, global exposure, and strong learning opportunities. The people are generally smart, collaborative, and supportive. Benefits are among the best in the industry, and recognition programs such as the Manager Excellence Award truly value leadership and teamwork.

      Cons

Your growth depends a lot on your immediate manager’s approach. In my case, opportunities to excel are limited, yet expectations remain high. The performance evaluation process relies on both self-review and manager review, but salary planning is completed even before evaluations are finalized, which feels inconsistent and discouraging.

      Pros

The interview process was very conversational for the most part. I was mainly asked about my experience with Python and HTML, how I act under pressure and in a collaborative environment, and my willingness to learn new things.

      Cons

There was a small coding demo where I had to prove I knew Python. Not really a con, but something to be mindful of.
