What is the hiring process like at M-DAQ?

Poor strategic planning, toxic environment, not being included

      Pros

Compensation package I got was good; people were kinda relax at work (this is also cons)

      Cons

They drew a fancy project on paper, and they started hiring great people but then they had literally no meaningful works for those people to utilize their talents. After that they canceled the project and fired people in an inhumane way. They fired a guy who would have his wedding a week later; a dad to be with his wife was in the 3rd trimester of the pregnancy; and more. They called themselves “startup” but people worked too relaxedly. I was joining with a hope that my ESOP could be worthwhile, but I soon realized that many people here didn’t want to make the difference, they just wanted to work barely minimal. Agile coaches often hosted meaningless long sessions with dozens of attendees, just to justify their time. Well, that also means, if you want to do minimum at work, that could be a good choice. This was the only company where I logged off at 5PM. CEO shared layoff news on company channel almost everyday. “No, we are not mentally preparing for layoffs, just to share what is happening outside”, then they fired people.

good team, smooth onboarding. pepple are supportive and helpful.

      Cons

too many meetings, too many meetings, too many meetings, too many meetings, too many meetings,

      Terrible management

      Pros

Team was welcoming and friendly Well stocked kitchen

      Cons

Hired for full time role but was retrenched within a month - Was hired in October to learn and take over an existing role in a team, so the SRE can move on to another team - Not long after I joined, there was also another new SRE joining - Was affected by huge restructuring exercise in early November, double-digit number of staff retrenched - Apparently not the first restructuring exercise, they had one in September and yet I was hired in October, then subsequently retrenched in November - There's more but I won't delve into it - it just seems like management has bad hiring practices - Seemed like the team genuinely had no idea this would happen (or they wouldn't have spent that much effort to train newcomers), higher ups most likely at fault for bad management Other cons: - Hotdesking but WFH not encouraged - sometimes not enough seats if you arrive later - No work life balance (for SRE) - expected to be on call 24/7 to respond to any issues in production

      The founder is finally removed.

      Pros

There were no pros as long as the founder was in power. Maybe the only pro was the day he is removed. The day after the town hall announcement was the first day I felt hope in this company. Perfect title for the handover event. A New Beginning for M-DAQ indeed.

      Cons

Where do I even begin? Unfocus and clueless about the payment business. He used the company like it was his personal business. Clocking air miles using his personal credit card for all company expenses. Using company resources and car for personal meeting and errands. Hiring friends and family who is clearly unqualified. Lecturing staff who don't listen to him. Honestly, he should’ve been kicked out years ago but well covered up by people around him. This wasn’t just bad leadership. It was a full-blown leadership disaster.
