I was approached to put in an application then the rejection email said they had already made an offer to someone before I got to a second stage. This tells me they likely already had someone in mind at the point that they had reached out to me, which was not ideal considering how much they recommended you be familiar with via the job advert and I had put in reasonable time preparing given the contact was not a blind application. Thankfully the interview was not gruelling as the interviewer was nice to speak to and they did not take up much of my time.
