      Software Engineer Interview

      Nov 19, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Aaqua in Oct 2021

      Interview

Interview was relative easy with a take-home exercise plus a presentation on a certain workflow. Nothing too difficult if you have been working in tech. Got offered the letter of intent but some of the terms are worded ambiguously and I have to point out to the talent partner for him to confirm the mistake. A bulk of the offer lies on the RSU and ESOP, which I have to put a super heavy discount to it since the product has been delayed time and time again. Who knows if they are going to make it eventually? Note: there is no track record of the management team succeeding, and company is burning cash with 170 employees and no revenue for the past 2 years. CEO's presence on the Internet is close to none. Another portion is the promise of high bonus (50%) which depends heavily on the product going live. Remember, this bonus can amount to $0 as the product can be delayed indefinitely, given the internal mess as cited by other reviewers. This leaves us to the base pay which isn't fantastic and this is where the talent partner leaves no room for negotiation. Those who have interviewed at tech companies know that there is always room for negotiation but not this company. Nonetheless, they do have some good engineering standards and should be a good place to learn and explore. Just do not pin any hope on the other compensation components, and you should do fine.
