      Software Engineer New Grad Interview

      Aug 13, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Affinity (San Francisco, CA) in Oct 2018

      Interview

I was invited to do an all day on-site interview, but after 2 initial interviews and lunch, was told they were no longer interested. There were supposed to be 4 total. While I don't really care that I was rejected (it happens, not every technical interview goes amazing) this struck me as completely unprofessional and rude. I took the time to travel to San Francisco, skipped classes, and paid for my own travel and you cant even be bothered to finish the interviews? I don't care that you are no longer interested in a candidate, finishing the interviews is basic manners, you have asked this candidate to come to you, even if you aren't interested, use it as a chance to train your interviewers for heavens sake. Would not recommend working here, as based on this interview, this company is lacking in any basic sense of empathy, and based on that, probably lacks concern for their own employees. I did not post this originally because I was just going to let it go, but at my current start up, they specifically mentioned n e v e r to do this! Go figure.

      Question 1

It was a while ago so I do not remember, but it was a basic algorithms question.

Hi there - we're so sorry to hear that you had a negative experience during your onsite with Affinity. Our priority when interviewing candidates is to create a process that's fair, pleasant, efficient, and effective at evaluating the criteria for a given role. In order to respect candidates' time, we've sometimes ended on-sites early when we've determined that it's likely not a perfect fit; it sounds like in this case, that led to an unpleasant experience. We apologize for the negative experience and we appreciate the candid feedback! Thank you, Adam Perelman CTO @ Affinity
