The overall process was incredibly slow and dragging, with responses significantly delayed and inconsistent. To begin, I did not hear back about my application until a whole month after applying. After being reached out to for a quick phone call to discuss the role, I was invited to an in-person interview scheduled immediately for next-day, which turned out to be a panel (this was not disclosed ahead of time). The conversation was overwhelmingly positive, but then I did not hear back for another month, not even an update. Finally, after several emails checking in, I’d been informed that internal discussions were still happening and I’d hear more in the coming week. They said the intention was to bring me aboard. But another month passed by… and nothing. I emailed once again to check in. Finally, the COO got back- and with an offer! Unfortunately though, I was now being told the revised role would no longer meet the original salary band listed. I kindly requested a call to discuss the total compensation and benefits package so that I could either get closer to their number, or counter-offer if necessary. This conversation also went well, and there were a number of unanswered questions and takeaway items for the hiring team to get back to me about… And now here we are, another two months later. I sent multiple emails following up, as I was still interested in trying to work something out, but also had another offer on the table and needed to make a decision soon. To this day, I still have not heard back from this company since June 2024, and it is now nearing the end of August. I went from having an offer to no further follow up, no information, and zero communication about the fate of this offer other than an auto-generated rejection email from the application tracking system. For my own closure, I professionally and judiciously emailed the hiring team to let them know I decided to go with the other offer, as their radio silence did not give me the impression that they were prepared to move forward. I’m quite disappointed with how things ended, as I truly believed this could’ve been a great fit for both parties. A little bit of communication and follow-through goes a long way to candidates, even if the update is that there are no updates! It is admittedly a strange feeling to be ghosted after all of this time and effort spent. My biggest advice to candidates is to ask as many questions as possible (especially when it comes to comp+benefits), check in consistently if you are promised answers, and know your worth!
