A friend told me about the opening. I called the school, and received a screening interview over the phone. The guy I talked to said he would talk to the principal and get back to me. The principal called me a week later to schedule an interview. Principal met with me. She seemed uninterested in the interview. and I got the impression that it was just a cursory interview. She asked me a few questions about teaching in the urban environment. Asked for my references, and told me she would contact me after she contacted them. She never asked about my teaching philosophy or classroom experiences. A week later, I got a call to arrange teaching a sample lesson to a class. I had to spend the day teaching multiple classes (3-8th grade classes and 2-7th grade classes). I went. I did not expect to teach the classes in front of panels of 3-5 teachers AND 3-5 parents. However, the parents loved me.
