First we scheduled an call on a Saturday, where the interviewer did not show up. A few days latter I receive an apologizing email, asking for a new date. We schedule a new call and this time the interviewer shows up, but arrives late. He gave me the impression he's very busy.
In the call we talk about my experiences, availability and expected pay rate. The interviewer informs me that every developer on AppEvolve always works on two projects at the same time, which did not resonate well with me.
At the end, he sent me by email a "small frontend coding test", which consist on converting Figma designs from a full dashboard page to a responsive, pixel perfect UI. Since this was more of a project than a coding test, I asked if I could be paid for my hours working on this, to which the interviewer responded "we don't normally pay for these tests, but we are open to", and then asked on the spot for my time estimate to complete it.
My final impression was that AppEvolve is using the job application process to get free development work, and that the developers there are being overworked.
