The initial phone screen went well; however, my interview with the HR Director was a notably different experience. The tone felt unexpectedly confrontational at times, and some interactions came across as more challenging than constructive.
Given the expectations for professionalism and leadership within HR, this raised concerns for me about the team dynamic and overall work environment.
It also made me reflect on the role’s turnover, as the position appears to have been reposted multiple times.
Additionally, the HR Director shared a negative personal experience from a previous role in the tech industry, specifically around hiring practices focused on education and skills over values and personality. While I understand the perspective, it felt somewhat unrelated to the discussion and not necessary to include in the interview context. I was invited for an onsite interview but I declined. Feedback: Senior HR leaders set the tone for organizational culture, and it’s essential that they consistently model the highest standards of professionalism, constructive communication, and respect throughout the interview process. Be kind during the interview process. The HR Director each statement I made she had a negative statement to make about it. She escalated every statement to a hyperbole against me. (combative)
