      UI Engineer Interview

      Apr 30, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Bengaluru
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Attivo Networks (Bengaluru) in Apr 2019

      Interview

First round: Telephonic Went well. Drilled on JavaScript closures, Event Loop, ES6 features and some basic questions. Second Round: F2F @ Attivo Office, Koramangala Qn 1: Can you just brief about yourself. Qn 2: How will you rate yourself in JavaScript out of 5? I replied 5. then the replies from the interviewer follows below. Oh 5. Good. 1. Can you tell me what is prototype chain? Explained __proto__, [[proto]], prototype property of constructor and how the __proto__ is consulted. 2. Can you write me a polyfill for bind method? Wrote one using apply. Interviewer: You are 5 in JavaScript. You are not supposed to use call/apply. I though you will be writing that without using call/apply. Ok, Now you write a polyfill for apply. Me: Got pissed off with that reply. But keeping my calm tried a lot. But at the end, I told I am sorry I couldn't. 3. Can you tell me how to extend an Object in JavaScript. Explain it with an example. Me: Wrote a typical A, B constructor functions and explained how prototype linking is done with Object.create method. Also I explained how same is done using new Operator and B.prototype = new A Interviewer: Ok, Can you do it with ES6 Classes. Me: I haven't worked on ES6. But will try. Me: I wrote Class B extends A and for instantiating B, I used new B() (May be it is wrong.) Interviewer: That's fine. 4. You worked in Angular JS 1.x? (Interviewer is not even a beginner at Angular JS. Their tech stack was ReactJS) Me: Yep. Interviewer: I have a div1, div2, a angular directive nested insided div2. You have a control inside the directive. You want to execute/call a method of div1 inside your directive on control click. How to do it. Me: I explained there is a & binding, with which you can execute an expression in the context of parent scope from inside your directive. Interviewer: (Laughing with a crooked smile.) Whether it will work? Me: Yep. It will. Interviewer: Smiled. Can you code it in laptop. Me: Sure. But he didnt give laptop to code the same. Interviewer: I was not looking at this. You didn't get the problem. Me: Ok. I wil try to expln the qn you asked and let me know if I understood your qn. Correct me if I made a mistake. I was expln exactly the same that was written above when he asked the qn. Interviewer: He acknowledged that I was understanding the qn correctly. Me: Then the answer I gave should work. Interviewer: (Again with crooked smile), No it won't. Me: I think may be you didn't understand my ans. I will expln again. I started expln. Interviewer: Yep you are 5 in JavaScript and I may not understand you. Expln again. Me: No I didn't mean it. May be I will expln how we are binding a parent scope property to an isolate scope in AngularJS. and you can correct me. Interviewer: (Not listening to me. Was doing something with his laptop). Interviewer: How do you sort an array if I give you one. Me: I use sort of Array object. which in turn uses Quick Sort Interviewer: Why Quicksort? time complexity? Write Algorithm. Me: Average case NlogN. and wrote one. He was doing something with his laptop Interviewer: Acknowledged it. Do you have experience in ReactJS Me: No. I haven't. Interviewer: But your resume says that you know ReactJS and he showed me my resume in PDF where there was reactjs mentioned in my skills section. Me: Got shocked. I had a copy of the same with me in my mobile and I quickly checked it and I found no reference to ReactJS in my copy. But, out of respect, I told 'sorry may be I would have mis-typed it while preparing' (Actually I took 1 month to prepare my Resume) Interviewer: That's fine. Humans make mistakes. I'm done. You wait here. We will have next steps. Me: Ok, Fine. Waiting for 5 mins Interviewer: We are done. You can leave for the day. We will update you. Me: Ok thanks and I walked out of office. Immediately after coming out, I called out the consultancy and asked them to check if I had any reference to ReactJS in the copy of resume they forwarded to Attivo. The consultant confirmed that there is no reference. Also He confirmed that my Naukri profile also doesn't site any reference to ReactJS I have proof of my Naukri profile, the copy the consultant had forwarded and the one I have with me which sites no reference to ReactJS. Respected dignitaries of Attivo. Is this the way you treat a guy who comes for interview. I respect startups as I was working for one. Hence I showed interest and was driving a long way to give interview inspite of my office hours. If telling that I am very much good at JavaScript makes your interviewer intolerant, then he has some problem which you got to check first. And Reactjs in resume is a mystery. Editing a PDF can easily be done.
