      Finance Manager Interview

      Nov 14, 2024
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Banco Sabadell (London, England) in Oct 2024

      Interview

The process was deceitful to say the least. I was contacted by a recruiter through LinkedIn and process lasted 2 months. The position in theory, was for the London office. I interviewed with the hiring manager and the person leaving the job. The salary aspect had already been discussed with the recruiter in my initial conversation and Banco Sabadell knew. Recruiter even said that they were flexible with the compensation, however, the hiring manager already brought it up on the first interview which I found it very strange and suspicious as professional people don't even mention compensation in first interviews only at the final stage. Hiring manager made me feel almost like she was going to give me the job right away and she said that they were really in a rush because they wanted the person leaving to do a handover as soon as possible. She even said that a week after the interview I would be contacted by HR in Spain with a compensation package and some tests to complete. The reality was very different, Yes, I completed and passed all the tests and I had an interview with a lady in HR in Barcelona, Spain but she did not discuss any compensation package at all, all the opposite, she asked me to reduced me salary and that was the whole purpose of the call, nothing else. A profitable bank like Sabadell asking a single mother like me (and they knew this) to reduce my salary to which I obviously refused and her face expression completely changed. She then moved to ask me If I would be happy to move to Spain when even herself said that for this position it was not required to move anywhere. I found her behaviour very tyrannical let alone deceitful. The hiring manager said that it was this person in HR the one who would discuss the compensation package with me and this HR person that asked me to reduced my salary said it was not up to her to put the compensation packages together because she did not know the standard of living and compensation in London. At that point, it became crystal clear to me that it was all a web of lies and that they never had any intention to pay the salary range that they had told the recruiter let alone other benefits that are standard in the industry. By the way, salary range was already below the market rate for that position in banking and I now even doubt that the position was really for London. Also the position was not even secure because of the take over by BBVA. The recruiter told me that the job was between another candidate and myself and then the HR person in Spain that interviewed me said that she had another 3 candidates to see thing that left the recruiter and myself puzzled. After my interview with HR in Spain, I expressed my disappointment about them to the recruiter. Recruiter said that I was still a strong candidate, but I never heard from him after with the outcome but I had seen enough by then therefore, I could not be bothered to chase him either since all I heard was a web of lies from both: the hiring manager, the HR lady in Barcelona and the recruiter in London. I certainly did not want to work for such an organization. It was obvious from the first interview that their focus was only and purely in finding the cheapest candidate which is not necessarily the best so the process apart from deceitful was a total waste of time.
