      Senior Product Designer Interview

      May 24, 2024
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Belkins in May 2024

      Interview

COMPANY SENT ME AN OFFER AND A DAY BEFORE THE START OF WORK THEY WROTE THAT CHANGED THEIR MIND AND MOVING ON WITH ANOTHER CANDIDATE I have never written a review about a company, but I cannot remain silent about this case. For 12 years of working in IT, I have never encountered such an attitude towards a candidate. The whole process took 2.5 MONTHS, because after each round I waited for an answer for more than 10 days. The company explained this by considering all candidates applied. Despite the long wait, I remained under a pleasant impression by the team, the product idea and the company's expansion plans. Before receiving the offer I shared with recruiter my salary range expectations in euros and NET, but offer was fixed in dollars and GROSS. I began to clarify questions about the taxation system for Ukrainians in Poland and asked for a call with the hiring manager to discuss the compensation policy, further growth opportunities and metrics of my work success before signing the offer. The meeting did not take place, my future manager did not get in touch at the appointed time, and later I received a message from recruiter that the team had consulted and the offer is final. Is this a respectful and professional approach to communication? Further recruiter could not tell me the exact amount I would get after tax deduction and recommended firms for consultation. No problem, I made an appointment with a lawyer, and for this reason I asked for 2 days shift of our collaboration start and the appointment of a final call with my manager. The recruiter agreed. As a result, after consulting with a lawyer, I informed recruiter about my readiness to sign the offer and 2 hours before our meeting she confirmed our agreements are in place. And again, no one appeared on the call! I've got a message from recruiter that the team has changed their mind and made an offer to another candidate. The reason given to me was that the shift of the start date for 2 days later had a negative impact on business processes (I selected the initial start date by myself and the recruiter agreed to postpone it, besides the entire recruitment process for this role already lasted for more than 80 days), a change in my compensation expectations after the offer is sent (which is not true) and the company cannot guarantee salary growth, as the future of the product is unknown ( same time the CTO at the interview is saying that the product was successfully launched, is growing rapidly and the company has a roadmap for scaling). P.S. The most offensive thing is that I had an offer from another company, but I gave preference to Belkins because of the cool team and development plans, I made an effort to find a solution to minimize taxes and accept their offer, and after that guys had a muddy communication with me and acted disrespectful.

Dear Anastasiia, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We deeply regret that your hiring process left you with negative impressions. Firstly, we sincerely apologize for the extended duration of our recruitment process. We understand that waiting for over two months can be frustrating. Our intention was to thoroughly evaluate all candidates to ensure the best fit for our team. Regarding the salary and contract discussions, we apologize for any confusion or miscommunication. While our standard practice is to discuss compensation in USD and gross amounts, we should have made our policies clearer from the beginning, especially considering your initial expectations. The complexity of international tax laws can indeed make it difficult to provide precise net salary details. We understand that the delay in your start date and the resulting impact on our business processes was a significant factor in our decision. However, we regret that this decision caused you to lose an alternative offer. We should have communicated more clearly and promptly about the implications of any delays or changes. Your feedback about the perceived shift in your salary expectations is also noted. It appears there was a misunderstanding, and we are committed to refining our communication to avoid such discrepancies. Thank you once again for your valuable feedback. We are actively working to enhance our recruitment and communication processes to ensure better experiences for future candidates. We appreciate the time and effort you invested in the recruitment process and wish you the very best in your future endeavors. Warm regards, Marta Ivanova Belkins Recruitment Team Lead
