- First calls with a recruiter with typical questions, no issues. Very friendly and efficient. - Second was the HackerRank test that had to be completed. The interviewer did give me a hint that the second question will count the most. The test comprised of 3 questions and they gave you 1.5 hours to complete all the questions. I was not able to complete the test on time, and due to HackerRank only marking your answers to all the corner cases, I believe that I got around 10% for the question although I only had to write about one more block of code to get 100%. To MessageBird, a recommendation. Not all coding languages are the same. Some languages make string and array manipulation very easy and others just take a little more time. I applied for a GO software dev position, so I did the tests in GO. The problem is that this does take a little longer than using languages like Python or JS. I would recommend that you adjust the time based on the language the test needs to be completed in. Also, I would use HackerRank test results only as a conversation starter for a technical interview and not a benchmark to filter out interviews. This creates a process where you start to interview people that are really good at completing HackerRand challenges because they have been in the market for the last months and interviewed a lot of companies that have used HackerRank tests. It also effectively eliminated developers that take a little more time, but write stable, clean, and effective code because most of HackerRand (including the one that you will take when interviewing at MessageBird) is tests that do funky array manipulations and NOT real-world code problems. To the person that is applying for a position, a recommendation. Exercise a lot of array and string manipulations in the easiest high-level languages such as Javascript. They only check if you passed the benchmark based on the results of your code and not really your code standard or quality. It can be messy and inefficient, just make sure it works, and try to complete the tests as fast as you can.
