I applied online and received an email for a phone screen the same day. The phone screen went really well, the recruiter was very nice and informative. We went over my resume and experience.
5 days later I received an email from the recruiter saying that I moved forward to the next step which was a take-home assignment. The take home assignment needed to be turned in no later than 3 days later.
I did the take home assignment which took 10 to 12 hours of my time. The take home assignment consisted of creating a video using their platform.
After I turned my assignment in I didn’t hear anything for over a week because the recruiter was on vacation. My next communication was a “no-reply” email stating that they are not moving me forward because other candidates have “product specific” backgrounds that align more with what they do.
My issue with this whole situation is that it was made apparent by my resume and our conversation during the phone screen that I came from a different type of SAAS product. If that was going to be an issue then there was no point in moving me forward to do a take home assignment that took a lot of time and energy. It was a complete waste of time to do an assignment and not review it with the hiring manager or recruiter.
Again, the recruiter was nice but the take home assignment should be later in the process when the candidate pool gets narrowed down to the last few people. It is very inconsiderate to give a take home assignment and not be given a chance to review it with someone at Biteable.
Please be respectful of people’s time. Job searching is stressful with the pandemic and this was handled poorly.
