Associate Director of People Operations Interview

      Dec 5, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Burning Man (San Francisco, CA) in Nov 2023

      Interview

The hiring process was....really bad and filled with red flags. I was screened, then conversation about process, then a TWO PAGE ESSAY, then two person interview, then another conversation about process, then, I kid you not, SIX SETS OF INTERVIEWS with two employees each, then a conversation about process, then an in person interview. PHEW. As an HR professional, it was wild to be put through this, and it was a huge red flag that they were PROUD of this process. No organization is that "special" to put people through that. The in-person interview (which took me 2 hours each way to get to) was hurried, the CEO was not very engaged. It was about 20 minutes long, after they'd made me wait almost an hour and then they hurried me out for their next meeting. It seemed like it was merely a formality in some sense, and I found out 2 days later that they are "going in a different direction with the role". So....9 interviews, 2 pages of essays, and a whole day to go visit for 20 minutes and they apparently didn't even make a hire. They obviously knew they were "going in a different direction" long before I even went to the office. Really poor strategic planning to go through all that, and it shows a poor appreciation of candidates and potential employees. Handling of the communication was pretty unprofessional.

      Question 1

With 9 total interviews and two pages of essay questions, it was a lot of questions, I'd say half were about technical expertise and half were "cultural fit" questions.
