I interviewed remotely over three sessions using Zoom. My first conversation was with the CEO and we discussed the company, the culture, the current team, plus their history and future plans, and the specifics of the role. We also talked about my work history and employment goals. It was a very candid and relaxed conversation, and I found them to be very forthcoming when answering my questions. The second session was with a member of the engineering team. I was given a programming task and allowed to solve it using my preferred language/environment while sharing my screen. I thought it was an appropriate choice of task that was neither trivial nor unnecessarily hard, free of any “gotchas”, and relevant to Canopy Connect’s business. We discussed my solution and then talked about the product, the engineering team, and the employee experience. The final session was another programming task while sharing my screen. This was another task that was relevant to Canopy Connect’s product, although requiring a more elaborate solution more closely matching what they might use in production. We again discussed my solution and then there was another opportunity to ask questions. After my interviews I was given the opportunity to meet the engineering team so we could introduce ourselves and discuss life at the company. It had been many years since I last interviewed externally so I was nervous about the process. The Canopy Connect team made me feel relaxed, and I ultimately actually enjoyed the experience.
