      Interview

Long and unfruitful. Looking at my gmail: I applied to this company 2 years ago. Some talk with recruiters here and there. 1 tech screen which went well and I was "approved." This means I am vetted, it has nothing to do with employment, they now have to still get me a job with a client so that "approval" really means nothing as each client will probably want some vetting too. They would contact me from time to time, and I would ping them sometimes. There was never any work for me that was a fit. No negatives, no bum-hurt feelings. It just doesn't seem like they are able to place me and well, I'm not able to place myself due to factors like the market: remote is too often sought out more than it is offered, python/reactjs is the big skillset of 2018.

      Senior Software Developer Interview

      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Denver, CO
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Catalyte (Denver, CO) in Dec 2018

      Interview

I was contacted by a Recruiter within Surge who was actively trying to find a Sr developer in my expertise. This is rare so I paid more attention than I would usually give to an out-of-the-blue recruiter. This opportunity, and Surge in general, sounded right up my alley, almost too good to be true, so I pursued the recruiter interview. This was followed a few days later by a Technical Interview. My experience was the same as described elsewhere on this site. Some personal get-to-know-you chat and a technical question with live code examples of how to approach a problem. From Surge's sense of urgency and responsiveness it sounded like they wanted to move forward very quickly and I was ready to begin with them. After the technical interview I was told that the tech interview went really well. That Surge is "waiting for an assignment that fits my background" and that those do come along "from time to time". And "Sometimes this happens ASAP, sometimes it takes a bit of time" and the "staffing sheet changes constantly and we remain hopeful". My reaction to this whole process is that they seem to want to lure Sr Developers in, get them into their system, and be able to contact them should anything ever pop up. They seemed very eager at first, but once I was interested, they signed off with "we'll call you".
