The job posting requested that potential candidates make a short video explaining why they would be perfect for the graphic designer and illustrator role in addition to providing a link to a portfolio and CV. After I was selected to proceed to the next stage of the process, I was asked to complete a extensive design test requiring me to design 3 cards within their chosen themes and 1 pattern design for their wrapping paper collection. Although it's reasonable to ask candidates to do design tests, I found this to be especially extensive especially since I had not been interviewed yet. It would be good for potential candidates to have a chance to talk to the employer to see if they really want to work for them, before having to do a design test that is at least a week's worth of work basically for free. There wasn't anything on the brief saying that this work would not be used unless the person was hired - whether that's intentional or not, I'd like to give Central 23 the benefit of the doubt, but it would be good for them to clarify this.
