      I interviewed at Cisco

      Interview

I spoke with a Cisco recruiter at my school's career fair. They emailed me a few weeks later requesting that I schedule an on-campus interview. The interview lasted 45 minutes and wasn't too stressful. The interviewer was really friendly. We spent a while talking about Cisco and my education/experience before moving on to the technical questions. Questions included: 1. Implement specific logic gates using a multiplexer 2. State machine for detecting handshake sequence 3. Python script to print out positions of bits that are 1 for an arbitrary length string representing a hexadecimal number Less than 48 hours later I got an email stating their intent to make an offer

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I was asked to design hardware to detect a handshake sequence. I discussed strategy for designing the state machine but I didn't have to draw out any diagrams or circuits. I believe he was trying to see if I understood the concept of state machines. Even though I didn't say exactly what components to use to do different things, he seemed satisfied with my qualitative explanations of the different parts and the overall strategy.
