      Associate Sales Engineer Interview

      Mar 1, 2019
      Anonymous employee
      San Jose, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Cisco (San Jose, CA) in Jan 2018

      Interview

Interview process was extremely difficult. First step after applying required submitting a 2 minute video explaining a Cisco product or initiative. Second step of the interview process was a technical interview where I was given a list of coding exercises to do. I presented my solutions and went through my code line by line and had to answer any questions regarding the code. Last step was the hardest. The onsite interview which consisted of a behavioral interview, a 20 minute presentation on a product they provide to you 24 hours beforehand, an aptitude test, and a sales role play with a manager roleplaying as a customer (you get information on the customer's business several weeks before). The behavior interview is the same as any other behavioral interview. The aptitude test is pretty straight forward and supposedly changes every year, but also little impact on your interview process. Your 20 minute presentation is crucial and how you respond to the questions presented to you is huge here. Sales role-play is arguably one of the hardest segments of the interview. Depending on the customer scenario and what you position, this can lead to any number of questions which also have numerous answers. How you address the customer's concerns and how you answer is more important than the answers themselves.
