      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      Feb 24, 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Remote, OR
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Cofense (Remote, OR) in Nov 2017

      Interview

Applied online, got a call for an interview with HR. Then a 1:1 with hiring manager. Followed by an interview with the team I would be working with and finally a coding activity with a couple team members. If you've interviewed for a software position in the past 3-4 years you're likely familiar with the format, this was just 100% online. Pretty standard Java questions and coding... It was a slower process than I expected and once it starts it's easy to lose contact with the HR people. That's common at other places too, really not much difference, they aren't going after you, you're going after them so it's important to keep professional but always contact HR after the interview if you're still interested and let them know. If you don't hear back, drop them another note. I see other people complaining but I didn't have a bad experience, I just contacted them and if they said they'd get back in a couple days I would wait a couple days and contact them again. I do think it's funny that I see other emails with negative experiences and they didn't get the job. I can't help but wonder if the company made a good decision by not hiring them. Really, not every company is a good fit, not every candidate is a good fit. So far the company is great and I'm super happy with my decision. Pay is not "high", it is average or even a little low but that might be because most of us work remotely and I'm guessing it is a standard pay. By that I mean I can jump in my RV and go anyplace I want and work from there and may find that the pay is high for some areas and low where I currently live. The Onboarding process was well organized, took about a day with HR and IT. Met with my manager and introduced to the team. Everyone has been great with helping me get up to speed and answer questions. At least on my team they suggest getting up and moving around, like doing standup while going on a walk instead of sitting in front of the computer. Work is interesting and there are lots of products under development. It looks like you can move around to other projects when your project is done (but I haven't done that). Benefits are about average for software jobs. Not a particularly high cost for family coverage, but coverage seems pretty good (haven't needed to use it yet). They offer Health, Dental, Life, AD&D, and even Pet. NOTE: GlassDoor insist that I choose a location for my interview. My interview was 100% online. So I chose "Remote" but apparently there is a location in Oregon called "Remote"
