I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Congressional Budget Office in Feb 2015
Interview
2 rounds of interviews through a Skype-like web chat. First round was with a small group and was fairly short and simple. Second round was composed of 4 short interviews with different groups of employees. I remember the questions mostly being simple and sometimes repetitive with different interviewers asking the same questions. Overall people were very friendly and it wasn't an especially challenging process. Time was devoted to having my own questions answered. Before a formal offer was made, someone from CBO contacted a former professor of mine as well, I believe to discuss my quantitative analysis abilities.

Interview
Was reached out to for an interview a few weeks after applying online. I had multiple, each 30-45 minutes, with different divisions of CBO. The interviews were generally easy -- I answered questions about my quantitative skills, my experience with writing and research, and some basic behavioral questions. Overall, I had quite good conversations and came out of the interview feeling good. I was told I would hear back in the next few weeks. And then, I was ghosted. There was complete radio silence. I saw that my application status was updated on the portal about a month and a half after the interviews, but I still heard nothing. I emailed a few times. No response. It was an okay interview process, but the ghosting was quite fruastrating.

Interview
Two rounds of phone screeners with analysts in the unit I was interviewing for, followed by an in-person interview with the unit chief. All told, it took about six weeks from submitting my application to receiving an offer. Questions were not technical at all, had more to do with my academic experiences and previous work in data analysis.
