      Software Engineer Interview

      Jul 19, 2025
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Contour Education in Jul 2025

      Interview

After applying, I was invited to complete a one-way video interview with a 1 day turn around. At that stage, all I had was the job listing and company website, often not enough to meaningfully answer whether the opportunity was the right fit and worth pursuing. I was surprised to be asked to invest time without first speaking to anyone, or knowing I would have the chance to speak to someone in the interview. I actually do like the convenience of asynchronous interviews, but the way this was handled missed the mark. I was expected to share even more about myself, without being offered any chance to learn any role, team, or company specifics in return. It felt one-sided and lacking in mutual respect - a red flag for what it might be like to work there. I strongly recommend Contour Education consider starting with a short phone call or screening interview, as most companies do. This gives both sides the chance to ask some early questions and see if there’s alignment before asking candidates to commit further time. Additionally, providing just one day to complete the video stage is unrealistic given most people have other commitments, jobs, or interviews. I was genuinely excited about this role and felt I was a strong match, but I ultimately withdrew from the process due to the lack of transparency and consideration shown. I hope this feedback helps improve the candidate experience for others.
