      Interview

Long story short, this was a position I applied to a year ago - was rejected - but they reached out to me again to ask if I wanted to apply. At first, the recruiter had made it seem to me that I had the position in the bag. I had initially did the phone interview and Zoom interview with the two program/customer success managers. So at this point, all I really had to do was talk to the VP and then get the offer - they were rushed to get me trained before the old associate left. In fact, they had not even posted the job during this time. The recruiter told me that - first though - the two managers wanted to just quickly catch up with me on ANOTHER zoom call - which turned out to be ANOTHER hour-long interview diving into new things not mentioned in the job description. Then there was silence. What at first were nearly daily updates became nothing unless I emailed the recruiter for an answer. Then I noticed the job was in fact posted. Then I found out other candidates were being interviewed. A week went by. Then two. Then three. Then four. So on. I eventually waited for three weeks because it seemed the recruiter was being annoyed by my asking-for-updates. Finally I did ask after several weeks later, and the recruiter did respond. Apparently, one of the managers was out sick for weeks and turned out - another candidate was already hired! I was not only not informed about one of the deciding interviewers having gone missing for weeks, but also that I was never even considered to talk with the VP - and that someone else had already made it through the entire process! Perhaps it was a mistake on my end to let them get my hopes up, but ultimately - I was extremely disappointed to be told one thing when the situation was completely different, and not be updated on critical pieces of information. Tl;dr: Don't get your hopes up. Be sure to ask for any updates. But be prepared to not get the whole story. Be prepared to wait for a very, very long time.
