Got quite a few red flags while interviewing here. Very dry interview, I barely got a sense of the place apart from the president seeming stuck up. He dove right into the interview by asking about my greatest design skills without an intro about their agency, introducing the other woman on the call or anything at all. He said that since I have only graduated and been a designer for less than 5 years, I am inexperienced and should be grateful to get to work on "big projects". Honestly, all the answers to my questions were strange. The senior designer on the call seemed to have better answers but kept quiet the entire interview and I had to ask her a question directly for her to answer. Not sure if she was asked not to speak, but I wish she had spoken more.
A week or two later, the president invited me to work for a day in their office. I didn't think I would be a great fit but decided to try it out anyway. He sat me at their slowest Mac and got me to work on one of their client projects (which I was never paid for despite him assuring me I would be). The whole team was in the office, yet the office felt so silent and awkward to be in. Not at all a welcoming environment.
By the end of the day, I got a verbal offer which was below the range I was looking for and had stated (and below my last position's rate). I was thinking of maybe taking the job because I really like their clients, but I don't think I could have done it even if I wanted to. Got offered another job the next day and never looked back.
