This candidate did not apply through an employee referral. After applying, he recognized that the hiring manager was his manager for an internship several years ago at another employer. He rescheduled his first scheduled interview twice via email just before the interview time. His initial phone interview (with me) was held on 9-19, after being rescheduled from the 6th and the 11th. His hiring manager interview occurring on 9/25 and team interview later that week. On 9-29 the individual reached out to the hiring manager to state he had another job offer. The hiring manger told the candidate it would be best to take the other offer as he believed we would be hiring another, more experienced candidate. Ultimately, that is what occurred. Our HR administrator emailed the candidate on 10-9 that the we had extended the offer to another candidate who accepted. Any discussion of prior employees is limited to engineering discussions because a key question for software developers is what percentage of work is greenfield vs. bug fix/updates/rework.
