      Marketing Role Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at CustomerLabs (Chennai) in Jun 2025

      Interview

If you're looking for a sibling, you should apply here. The founder here tries to big bro you a lot during the interview, which is laughable. I had applied via LinkedIn, and the HR team reached out. They were very comprehensive and detailed in the process. Also mentioned that the role was for Masscampaigns and not for Customerlabs. Spoke with one of the founders for the technical round, which went well; it was a mixture of technical and a general interview round. There were questions that I could answer very well and some where I found difficulty in answering, but I was transparent and informed that aspect could be a scope for growth. I was moved on to the "Cultural round," which was when things went south. I have been in many interviews where folks have been challenging, but never like this, where some person you have never met before tries to press you on so many little things. Even went on to say things like "you are probably not an expert at what you do." Again, reiterating that this was after the technical round. There is a similar experience by someone else that you can find on Glassdoor, where they felt that their self-confidence was hurt from the interview experience. After reading that I felt somewhat vindicated since I also had a feeling that this person was trying to belittle my experiences. Coming back to the interview. The person seemed to have an expected answer in their head and is not satisfied if you do not read their mind. Not to mention the person tries to big bro you. The thing is, I already have enough big brothers in my life, and I wasn't looking for one either. I found the entire experience oddly confrontational and unnecessary, also funny now that I reflect on it. Post the interview, I decided to call the HR and try to understand why the interview had gone that way, and they mentioned that is the way the founder speaks to folks. I get that you are a founder, and you have a way of speaking with your existing employees, but trying to set that tone with someone who is interviewing may not be the way forward. Within the company, you might be portrayed as a tough, no-nonsense founder, but that charade is probably only applicable within the confines of the company. Outside of that, speaking to someone with basic respect is a given, which I felt was lacking. This was most definitely a bizarre experience I have ever had, but I want to end it on a positive note. The HR person who is handling things is very comprehensive, and the other founder seems to have a level head. I wish the HR and the other founder the very best. They probably need it.
