      Data Platform Engineer Interview

      Jun 2, 2026
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Depop (London, England) in Nov 2025

      Interview

Absolutely abysmal hiring process. A recruiter reached out to me about a Data Platform Engineer role. I responded expressing my interest, expecting a request for a quick call to talk through the role and the company. Nope, I was instead directed to apply directly on their careers site - so why do you have recruiters then? After filling out the application I was then rejected the next day by what I assume was an automated process. No follow up from the recruiter or feedback. One week later, a different recruiter reached out about the same role. I can only assume they have very poor alignment internally on what kind of people they want, which is a big red flag!

      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Depop in Jan 2022

      Interview

First Interview - HR screen, as usual. They talked about the company, explained the role and asked me a few questions about my experience. They told me the salary range, and that it would depende on the level (they were looking from mid to senior level). Second Interview - Hiring Manager Call. First part of the call was to talk about the projects on my CV. They asked a few deeper questions, to evaluate the level I'm in. The second part was a few questions about ways of working (cultural questions). Two days after this interview they replied that the salary range for mid-level was actually lower, and asked if I was ok with that and if we could go forward to the next interview. I wasn't happy because it wasn't what was first informed, but I still accepted. I got no response in over a week, so I sent an email asking about the next phase, and they replied that they had already chosen another candidate, based on experience. A few weeks later the role is still available on their careers page.
