      Public Relations Manager Interview

      Feb 5, 2020
      Anonymous employee
      New York, NY
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Diversion Books (New York, NY) in Oct 2019

      Interview

The interview process was fairly straight forward. The red flags started though upon getting a verbal job offer. CEO Scott Waxman did not know what a formal job offer was, was ignorant about the concept of "compensation package," seemed puzzled by the idea that a job candidate with a significant amount of experience would expect an actual negotiation to occur about the compensation package (especially for a company that only offers really, really bad health insurance to employees), and in an extremely unprofessional move pushed for a quick acceptance of the verbal job offer by noting he had a second pick candidate to turn to. I had to write up my own job offer to confirm with Scott Waxman what he was actually offering (which he reviewed and still missed paid holidays I ended up not knowing about until they were only a few days away -- great for holiday planning!). I was able to negotiate for more vacation time than initially offered, but was asked to not reveal that to any of my coworkers.

      Question 1

I don't really recall. We talked about media relations, which the owner doesn't know anything about.
