      Java Software Developer Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at DocMagic (Torrance, CA) in Apr 2025

      Interview

The best thing about this by far was the kind and wonderful woman in HR. Legit a treasure, a fantastic and kind person through and through. The process itself was.... wanting however. We started by scheduling a zoom meeting. I showed up early, waited like 10 min for the interviewer to show up and they never did. I signed off and emailed HR telling them they didn't show. I get a message saying that the person did in fact show up. I am not sure whether they showed up very late like 15 min or more or just don't know how to use zoom. *shrug* I scheduled another meeting and had my conversation with the engineering manager. Pretty standard technical interview, although a bit condescending, typical for the field where arrogance and the need to prove yourself trumps decency towards your fellow human beings. No issues here. However, where I did take issue was the fact that the manager wanted to discuss salary AGAIN even though it was already discussed with HR previously. It's very unusual and was the only time it happened in more than 20 years of professional interviews I have had. Poor communication between HR and the manager or else just being obnoxious. The interview ended, and I never heard anything back from the company. Not a huge deal, but it is more professional to send a response back to candidates even if it is late. Overall you could consider interviewing here if you like the product/tech stack or are desperate for work, but there are definitely companies that treat their interviewees with more consideration.
