      Customer Support Engineer Interview

      I interviewed at Dot Compliance

      Interview

Application Date: August 18, 2025 Toronto, Ontario Interview Timeline: August 19: I received a reply from HR asking about my availability for a Zoom interview. I responded that I was available on Friday, August 22 at 2:00 PM. August 26 at 2:49 PM (Monday): I received a rejection email stating: "We regret to inform you that we have decided to move forward with other candidates at this time." I'm not sure if one business day after the interview is enough time for a fair evaluation, especially considering the interview was brief. I had a feeling the interview might have been just for formality, or to check a box or fulfill a requirement, rather than to truly assess if I am fit for the role. If the decision was already made, I would have appreciated not being invited to an interview. Interview Experience: The interviewer introduced herself. I did the same and shared my background, including my experience in both mid-sized and enterprise-level companies. Questions Asked: "We're not as big as your previous employers. We're a small company without a knowledge base. How would you resolve customer issues?" "Why did you leave your previous employer?" My answer: One was due to COVID-19, and the other was because of downsizing. "What are your salary expectations?" I answered: $67,000 – which may have been considered high.

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Dot Compliance

      Interview

Phone screen with recruiter, hiring manager 1:1, "technical" interview, virtual onsite with different team members spanning different departments (CS, technical services, sales). The technical interview itself was basic and tests your ability to read documentation and troubleshoot in real time. The people I met were pleasant, but I felt that the scheduling process and time between interviews was inefficient and inadequate from the perspective of the applicant. From start to finish, the process to a rejection at the final round took 1.5 months.

      Question 1

What is one of the most technical problems you've solved? Tell me about a time you were a self starter.
