      Designer Interview

      Nov 3, 2011
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Mountain View, CA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Duarte (Mountain View, CA) in Nov 2011

      Interview

This company is completely fragmented. The HR staff is a joke. In fact some members of the staff are part time. You may talk to them one day and then not hear any response back from the for weeks. Also, they will run you through unpaid tests (beware) these "tests" dont guarantee you a job at all.

      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Duarte (Sunnyvale, CA) in May 2016

      Interview

I first got in touch with the company in February, asked for information about the Designer position. I applied in March 2016. The recruiter finally got back to me in May, we booked a phone screen. The interview went super well, it was easy. I was told I should have expected a call within 3-5 business days to discuss the next steps, but they never got back to me. I emailed the recruiter twice, even called her... to this day she never got back to me. I understand the company is growing really fast, but this is no behaviour for an employer in the Bay. There are plenty of companies in the same business, go to the competition! Respect is the number one rule, and Duarte has shown me none!

      Designer Interview

      Jun 20, 2014
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Sunnyvale, CA
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Duarte (Sunnyvale, CA) in May 2014

      Interview

I applied through a recruiting agency and was informed Duarte was interested in my portfolio. The initial phone interview was very informative. The person in HR whom I spoke with was very knowledgeable about the company and its workflow/projects and questions focused on my work experience and design philosophy and goals. I then received a design challenge to test my fluency in photoshop and eye for detail. Within a day we scheduled an onsite interview in their Sunnyvale office. The interview consisted of 2 groups staring off with me presenting my portfolio on a projector. The first group was designer and senior designers of teams that had open positions and the second was higher ups in the organization. Questions were fairly regular for a designer interview, and they were happy to answer my questions about their company. All of the HR and hiring managers and interviews I interacted with were friendly. The whole process was very quick. Soon after I received a formal offer and was in touch with an art director as well as HR in my deliberation. They were very gracious in answering my additional inquiries about Duarte. Some negatives in the experience were that it was not yet determined who I would be working with, the office was less occupied/representative as it was a Friday afternoon (?), and although appropriate I didn't feel as though the group presentation format allowed me to really connect to any individual interviewer.
