      Project Architect Interview

      Jul 21, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at ENV (New York, NY) in Jul 2019

      Interview

I applied while not living in New York. I read everyone's profile on their website and was interested because they don't seem overly pretentious, and have a diverse staff. I received a response from the office asking to set up a video interview. They briefly explained the position to me, then asked if I had questions within about 7 minutes. Luckily, I came prepared with a list of questions, which helped to extend the interview. One interviewer was interested in answering my questions, the other seemed annoyed. As it turns out, "Project Architect" at this firm is little more than a draftsman (I was told 95% of my time would be spent drafting). My theory is because this lends credibility to someone who would otherwise hold a lesser title, and makes their clients feel a little more assured in their process. I'm accustomed to smaller firms, and titles don't mean a lot to me, but this place definitely has a corporate feel to it where that kind of thing matters. The pay is likely more than my current position, but the responsibility is less, so for me, this would be a couple steps backward in my progression as an architect, and I think we both felt this. Ultimately, I was not offered a position, nor would I have taken it.
