Interview
The interview included a test to demonstrate my understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel, which I was nervous about, as a regular Mac user. However, it wasn't too difficult, and I understand why they need to have it. The interview itself was in a large open concept board room with 2 higher staff in the department. The questions were not what I was expecting but according to sources after the interview, they are becoming the new norm. Though I will say, I did EXTENSIVE research beforehand to prepare, including the company history, practice questions (AI and standard from blogs/LinkedIn) and I still felt a little caught off guard. The questions wanted me to demonstrate skills and experience in niche moments that, to me, did not feel applicable to the role, though maybe that's just me. Something that did bug me is that in the interview, they informed me that since the position is contract, they do not provide/allow parking on the premises. Given that it is not near the subway or even that close to a bus stop, I found this unreasonable and should have been identified ahead of time. (Hello, Job Ad??) I would've liked to know these questions or topics upfront, which is becoming more normalized in the industry. Giving the interviewee time to prepare and think brings out the best in the candidate and reduces issues during. I do understand the apprehension because of AI use, but I think it is pretty obvious when someone is reiterating a script vs speaking from the heart. Anyways, both interviewers were lovely, the office and culture seemed great, and the process was very smooth, seamless, on-time, efficient, and well-done.
