      I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Emphasis Events (Winston-Salem, NC) in Jul 2014

      Interview

      After resume was submitted, I received an email (at 7:30pm) inviting me to interview between 10:30-1:30 the next day. I replied to the email, then woke up and dressed for an early interview in case I was asked to come in at 10:30. After hearing nothing by 11 am, I called the provided number, left a message and waited. When my call was returned, by a Lindsay, there was a brief phone interview that presented the job as an Event Planner/Host - no cold calls or sales, as the 'clients' are already established. It was presented as 'we don't have to sell the products, we show our clients how to sell their products' (paraphrasing, but that's the gist). I was asked in for a face-to-face the next day (a Wednesday) at 10:45 am with hiring manager Kristen. Dress professional, bring resume. I receive 2 confirmation emails, and a courtesy call the following morning. I show up a few minutes early, am asked to fill out a cursory application, and I am waiting with several people in a small room with hip hop music playing from a radio nearby. But the 'managers' are in suits. When it is my turn, I meet with a nice man who doesn't give me his name, and never explains exactly why I am not meeting Kristen, although he speaks of her in the interview. I'm told over a hundred people applied and they only selected about 20 for interviews. This made me feel pretty good, until I looked online and discovered they have about 20 job openings, and every one has a different title and description. The job is presented as a sales job at this point - but still no cold calls. Salary is not fully explained. 'From 75-100 bucks a day' I'm told, during 'training', and once management is achieved, in approximately 6-12 months, 50-100k a year. 'We always promote from within, everyone learns every aspect of the work, blah blah'. Sounds scripted and rehearsed, and still doesn't tell me much, except that despite all the different 'available positions', every available job is the same - go to a Sam's Club and 'host' an 'event' - in other words, push products on people for not-established pay for not-established hours per week. And there is no talk of travel expense compensation despite being told the position requires travel to multiple locations, after daily morning meetings in the office. But, I am told that if considered for a position, there will be a follow up interview that is much more in-depth, and will explain the position in greater detail. So, I'm still positive. I'm also told that those that will be moving on in the hiring process will receive a call between 2 and 6 that afternoon. At 5pm that day, I receive an email from the HR department stating "We received word from management that you missed your interview. As a professional courtesy, we wanted to make sure there was not an emergency or unforeseen circumstance. If you would still like to be considered for the position, please contact our office ASAP and we will try to assist you in rescheduling." I immediately called the office, and no surprise, got voicemail. I left a message about how there must' have been a mix up, since I was there, and the interview went exceptionally well. I also responded to the email, and called again, leaving another message. It should be known that I was exceptionally professional and polite, during the whole process, my interviewer seemed impressed that my skills and personality lined up with the qualities they were seeking, and I seriously thought I was being considered for the job. I presented myself in the messages as understanding about the mix up, and stated I was eager to clear up the understanding. I heard nothing, The next day, I again called the office - 5 times, with no answer. I left another message, called the backup number and left a polite message there, and also sent another email. I focused, in these messages, that it was understandable if I was not a candidate, but that I wanted to be sure it was ME they weren't considering, since they obviously had me confused with someone else if they believed I missed my interview. It is now 6pm on Thursday (day after interview) and I have heard not one word, by phone or email, and I politely asked for someone to just contact me and let me know what was going on. After hours of research on the web, I can find NOTHING on this company, except from it's own website, Facebook, and Twitter pages, although I did find a blog entry from a job seeker with eerie similarities to my own experience, warning of scams from these types of positions, although a company name wasn't given. This job is clearly a scam of some sort, and the company and managers have proved to be highly unprofessional and disorganized at best, and intentionally deceptive at worst. Be warned.
