Product Managers- Unless you are DESPERATE do not waste your time. Reached to for a role, got sent a case study on re-designing a consumer appliance. Pulled out of the process then. I get a product design question during the process, but to expect a case study on it is absurd. Previous reviews on blind + glassdoor also mention how they expect visual designs and UX mock ups LOL. Even FAANG or high growth start ups don't expect this level of case studies, let alone some random company Do better.

Interview

I was reached out to by a recruiter on linkedin and applied on their website. I was immediately sent a "2-3 hour" assessment without anyone in the company having taken even 5 minutes to chat with me and see if expectations aligned. While I believe a technical interview is necessary for a technical role like this, asking me to spend hours up front without having spoken to me is disrespectful of my time.

Interview Questions
  • 1. read JSON data containing user login behavior from an AWS SQS Queue, that is made available via a custom localstack image that has the data pre loaded. 2. Fetch wants to hide personal identifiable information (PII). The fields `device_id` and `ip` should be masked, but in a way where it is easy for data analysts to identify duplicate values in those fields. 3. Once you have flattened the JSON data object and masked those two fields, write each record to a Postgres database that is made available via a custom postgres image that has the tables pre created.

Fetch will reach out to you will a take home test. It is a test where you pull data from two end points, parse it, and display the information. After they approve your take home test, they will schedule a technical interview going over your take home test. They will ask you questions about how you could have done network calls differently, JSON parsing, UITesting, etc. Ultimately, they are not looking for an apprentice to learn anything to do with swift or iOS development, they are looking for someone that is at a Junior Level that can learn how Fetch's dev team operates.

Interview Questions
  • How could you have done the API call differently? What are some features you could have added to the app, and how would you go about integrating it? Etc.

Before speaking with a recruiter, they make you do an assignment that takes “less than two hours” to complete. Some have spent 8 hours and have been rejected. My time is too valuable to spend more than 2 hours on something where they barely spent 5 minutes on me. Final note, the CTO (who is toxic per Glassdoor reviews) now runs the PM org too, so PMs who are desperate and willing to tolerate a toxic environment will take a lot of time to make a perfect submission to get to the next step in the process, creating adverse selection bias.

Interview

I cold applied once and got denied the next morning through an automated message at 7 AM. I waited a couple weeks but then went back and applied with a referral from a friend that went through the apprenticeship and is now permanently there. I then received an email from a recruiter asking me to complete an assessment with no time limit. According to my contact that works there, they really are not worried about time. In total, it took me almost a month to get it done and sent in and the next day I received two emails saying they want me to move to the next step in the hiring process which is a 1 hour technical interview. According to some email attachments, they say you can expect questions about the take home exercise you completed, as well as your work history and background. So I have a week to prepare for that. I hope I can edit and update this with my experience in this second round.

Interview Questions
  • No questions yet, but they said you can expect questions about your take home test in the second round 1 hour technical interview. Be prepared to explain why you made certain choices.
