      Assistant Paralegal Interview

      Aug 31, 2012
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Fragomen in May 2012

      Interview

While the phone interview I had was easy enough, I was left unimpressed with the whole process. I originally received a phone call from a male recruiter and when I called him back, he told me he was located on the East Coast (I applied for a job in Santa Clara) and that he would call me the next day at 9am my time, 12pm his time for a phone interview. I waited the next day.. and received no phone call. I thought I might have misunderstood and he would be calling at 12pm my time. 15 minutes past 12, when I had decided to try to call the recruiter myself, I received a call from a woman. Not to interview me, however. To schedule a phone interview. Which I was supposed to have already had with someone else. There was no explanation given for this. I agreed to a phone interview at 2pm in the afternoon. Once again, the designated time came and went. This time, however, I didn't have the recruiter's phone number. More than half an hour later, she called me apologizing and said she'd have to reschedule for 9am the next day. The next day she called more than an hour late and just asked "would now be a good time to talk to you?" Perhaps the agreed time of 9am would have been better. The questions asked weren't difficult or unexpected, as long as you've prepared convincing material on how your background makes you perfect to work in immigration law. The recruiter seemed rather bored with the routine work of screening applicants and when I gave good answers, she actually seemed somewhat surprised. Esp. with my response regarding dealing with a difficult customer (perhaps she'd never heard a story about a customer that insulting). The interview went well and she requested that I e-mail her a copy of both my undergraduate and graduate transcripts so that she could see my GPA, as well as a writing sample and a resume in .doc format so that she could proceed to set up an in-person interview. In the text of the e-mail I wrote her, I explained that the letter grades on my graduate transcripts were not American grades as they might appear to be but ECTS (European) grades and supplied her with my approximate GPA. I never heard back from her, which leads me to believe she didn't read the text of that e-mail. I could have followed up, but given my experience with the simple task of having a phone interview and employee reviews of the place, I decided not to.

      Interview

There were two interviews, one with HR and then with the team in person. There was some lack of communication in the middle of the process, with the HR not knowing if they would have openings in one or another office, so that required following-up.

      Interview

Very simple - Phone interview and then in person interview. I was able to get more information on the role as well as expectations. Then I only had to wait a week to hear back and let them know if I was accepting. Overall a very easy interview process.
