      Program Manager Interview

      Feb 4, 2013
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Washington, DC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Genetic Alliance (Washington, DC) in Jan 2013

      Interview

About 2 weeks after applying online I was contacted for a phone interview. The phone interview lasted approximately 20-30 minutes, after which I was invited for an in person interview for the following week. In the office I had 2 1-hour interviews (roughly). The first was with an office manager and two other employees currently with the company; the second with the would-be direct boss for the position. Each interview went well, natural flow of conversation, very easy-to-answer questions, no wild curve balls, etc. Following part 1 of the interview the manager even said "well, we can't hire anyone without them having filled out the official application form, so let's get you started on that." I think if I would have crashed & burned during the interview it would have been strange for her to ask me to do that, so that was further evidence that things were going well. In part two it was more of a information session, learning more about the position, etc, though there were still some questions. I was impressed with the 4 employees I met with, the position, and the office as a whole. They told me it was narrowed down to 2 finalists & they were hoping to decide asap. 1 week after the interview I contacted the office manager via email to follow up on the position & their decision, but my email was unanswered. The next week, I tried calling the office manager - voicemail. I tried calling the would-be boss - voicemail. Then, I sent the would-be boss an email similar to the previous week's email to the office manager. This too went unanswered. While I realize people are busy & not every call/email can be answered, this was 4 attempts that went completely ignored. I have no idea if the position is filled or not, nor do I think I can try to find out, as any more attempts at contact might make me look psychotic! It's a shame, as I was very excited about this position. However, the complete lack of communication was a major red flag to me & I have to wonder if I didn't dodge a bullet here..... As an interview, it was a positive experience. However, the complete lack of follow-up communication make me rate it negatively. It's beyond strange.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Genetic Alliance in Apr 2018

      Interview

Very lengthy and awkward. I responded to emails and I often received an out-of-office reply. The staff there would sometime respond and sometimes not. During the in-person interview, it was chaotic and scattered, lacking focus. They talked over each other and there was an uncomfortable tension in the air. I followed up later with an email letting them know I withdraw my candidacy. A toxic work environment is not worth the low-salary, limited scope program.

There were numerous and awkward questions.
